Is This Certification for you?
The Ideal Candidate
Have you just been downsized out of your corporate job? Are you burnt out with the corporate culture? Or feeling insecure about the long-term prospects of your job? Are you interested in something that will give you more control, independence, and eventual financial stability? If so, becoming Certified in the Compelling Speaker trainer program could be your solution.
Consider this composite portrait of the Certified Compelling Speaker trainer and see if there’s a match with your qualities and experience:
- At least a four-year college degree.
- About a decade or so work experience in the corporate world, probably in some sort of training or communications or HR capacity
- Some business savvy that will be helpful in running your own business
- Some basic insight into the businesses and industries you might have as clients [Note that a specific industry background—such as banking or retail or telecommunications, etc.—would give you a natural market niche for your business.]
- Experience with giving presentations and good on your feet
- A “compelling speaker” in your own right
- Enjoy being in front of a group and can capture and hold their attention
- A genuine desire to help others improve their skills
- Ability to balance your ego (enjoying the spotlight, relishing the thrill that comes with being in front of a group) with that desire to help others
- Aptitude at providing tactful, constructive coaching (and able to receive constructive coaching in a positive, receptive light)
- Personable, fun-loving, emotionally secure and strong integrity
- Would experience deep satisfaction at being able to see almost immediate results at the transformation this Compelling Speaker program can bring to participants
To become certified to teach this program, you must possess these characteristics:
- Be a technically excellent presenter as well as dynamic and engaging—compelling—in a way that mesmerizes audiences and creates a high likeability factor.
- Possess excellent skills at providing critiquing and feedback: observant, strong assessment capabilities (“doing this would make you better,” “doing that is diminishing your power”), ability to be sensitive and compassionate while being constructive and helpful.
- Have good marketing skills: the ability to network, self-promote, build a client base, maintain relationships.
- Have good office skills: proficiency at Word and PowerPoint essential. A financial program like QuickBooks is also necessary. If office skills are not your strong suit, this is an area you can easily contract out…
- Have strong self-confidence, to the point that you can let go of the need for this to be “all about me” and be truly willing to help others improve their skills.
If you possess the above characteristics and are ready to either start or grow your own training business, then The Compelling Speaker program may just be for you.
